Pink puts on one hell of a show.

Last night, the pop icon came home for a massive sold-out show at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. A native of Doylestown, Pennsylvania - about 30 minutes north of the city - Pink was give the warm hometown welcome by the capacity crowd of nearly 70,000 fans. Last summer, Pink headlined next door at Citizens Bank Park. To come back just one year later, on the same album cycle, and sell out a freakin' football stadium, is an ultimate testament to not only the strength of her catalog, but all the creativity and hard work she puts into her dynamic live shows.

The Script, a band that has long been a staple in the pop-rock scene, brought their signature energy and emotion to Lincoln Financial Field as the opening act for Pink’s 2024 summer stadium tour. The Philadelphia crowd, already buzzing with anticipation for Pink, warmly embraced The Script as they took the stage.

From the moment they stepped onto the stage, The Script made it clear that they were there to do more than just warm up the crowd; they were there to leave a lasting impression. Frontman Danny O'Donoghue commanded the stage with a charismatic presence, engaging with the audience between songs and encouraging sing-alongs that reverberated through the massive stadium. His connection with the crowd was palpable, particularly during more intimate moments when he would venture out onto the extended stage, getting closer to fans and making the experience feel personal despite the venue's size.

Guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power were equally dynamic, with Sheehan’s riffs slicing through the night air and Power’s rhythms driving the energy of the set. The band's cohesion was evident, and their polished performance reflected years of playing together.

The Script’s setlist was a well-curated mix of their biggest hits and fan favorites, tailored to resonate with both longtime followers and casual listeners. They kicked off their set with the anthemic "Superheroes," which set the tone for a night of high energy and emotional highs.

"Breakeven," one of their most iconic tracks, was a standout moment. Perhaps the most emotional moment of the night came during their performance of "The Man Who Can’t Be Moved." The song’s poignant lyrics and O'Donoghue’s heartfelt delivery struck a chord with the audience, creating a sea of lights as fans raised their phones in unison.

The Philadelphia crowd was fully engaged throughout The Script’s set. Their songs, filled with relatable themes of love, loss, and resilience, clearly resonated with the audience. Even those who were there primarily for Pink were visibly enjoying the performance, many singing along and dancing in their seats.

The band also did an excellent job of acknowledging their role as an opener while still giving their all as performers. O'Donoghue made several nods to Pink, expressing their admiration and excitement to be part of the tour, which only endeared them further to the crowd.

The Script’s performance was a masterclass in how to properly open a stadium show. They brought a perfect blend of energy, emotion, and showmanship, ensuring that the audience was not just ready for Pink, but that they also left with a renewed appreciation for The Script. For anyone who might have been unfamiliar with their music before the show, The Script likely left as newfound fans. Overall, it was a memorable performance that set the stage beautifully for what would be an unforgettable night of music.
